Our mission is to substantially reduce the carbon emissions and cost of offices.
Nezo’s history began in the 1990’s when Greg Lavery recognised the environmental damage caused by prevailing building design practices while working as a civil/structural engineer with ARUP.
From 1995 to 1998, his doctoral research developed a more environmentally-considered building (and fit-out) design approach across engineering and architecture. Some of his findings have become standard practice, such as the WELL standard and NABERS. Other design principles have yet to be adopted – these are now an integral part of Nezo Interiors’ approach.
In 2015 Greg founded Rype Office to address the huge amount of furniture waste and consequent high carbon emissions of office furniture using the principles of the Circular Economy.
Nezo Interiors began as the design arm of Rype, before spinning out in 2023 as Rype became synonymous with high quality remanufactured furniture.
Nezo is an abbreviation of Net Zero Carbon, reflecting the ability of the team to achieve the greenhouse gas emission reductions considered necessary by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) – as well as reducing costs, waste and raw material extraction while creating local jobs for those who need them most.
We work collaboratively and welcome other sustainability-focussed designers to join us for a project or ongoing. Please contact us if you are a designer and share our passion for a more sustainable future.
